10 YEARS AGO (2004)

Elizabeth Tregan wins MVP honors in leading Plattsburgh High School to the championship of the Watertown New Year’s Volleyball Challenge. Teammate Katrina Staves and Beekmantown’s Kaylen Fessette also earn all-tournament honors.

Matt St. Louis scores with 1:21 left in regulation, giving Lake Placid a 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten Beekmantown. Greg Cassidy also scores for the Blue Bombers while Glenn Palmer tallies for the Eagles, who suffer their first loss in nine games.

Rob Hipps scores 13 of his game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to spark Westport to a 51-50 come-from-behind victory over Chazy in the final of the Chazy Holiday Basketball Tournament. Jon Bradley leads Chazy with 16.

Plattsburgh High’s Elliot Luscombe finishes third in the 300-meter dash with a time of 35.26 seconds at the Metropolitan Athletic Congress High School Classic in New York City.

Joe Fountain (103), Mark Devins (112), Ryan Lemieux (130), Justin Buskey (135) and Ben Smart (171) win their weight classes in leading Saranac to the team title in the Schenectady Invitational Wrestling Tournament.

20 YEARS AGO (1994)

Junior Steve Moore, who scored 58 goals in just over two seasons, rejoins the Plattsburgh State hockey Cardinals after sitting out a semester with academic problems.

Curt Hanover sets two meet records and PHS teammate Erik Wood grabs four firsts in the Preseason Swimming Meet.

Jody Bigalow scores 24 points as Crown Point knocks off previously unbeaten Elizabethtown-Lewis in girls’ basketball. Alonna Haseltine scores 21 for the Lions.

Matt Frechette scores 14 points and Mike Frechette, 13, as Saranac Lake improves to 4-0 with a 78-48 win over Moriah in CVAC basketball. Brian Nephew leads the Vikings with 13 points.

Jim Burgey scores 16 points and Jamie Murdock hits some clutch shots late as undefeated Ticonderoga overcomes AuSable Valley, 50-46. Steve Davey nets 18 for the Patriots.

25 YEARS AGO (1989)

Chris Hammond makes 2 free throws with 6 seconds to play to give unbeaten Beekmantown a 58-57 victory over AuSable Valley. Ken Kirk leads the Eagles with 16 points while Mike Coolidge collects 18 for the Patriots.
