Saranac Lake blanks Saranac in hockey

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys’ hockey team received goal contributions from five different players in its 5-0 blanking of Saranac in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference play Thursday.

J.B. Chapin, captain David Cluckey, Chris Spicer, Blake Battistoni and Bradley Shumway each registered tallies in the five-goal win.

“It’s nice to get some points on the board from many scorers,” Red Storm coach Will Ellsworth said. “Saranac had a real nice second period and played hard.”

Saranac Lake managed a 22-18 advantage in shots on goal in the tilt.

Blake Darrah fended off all 18 shots to record a shutout. Jeffrey Smith made 17 stops for the Chiefs.

“Our next game is versus Lake Placid and is a benefit game for the Wounded Warrior Project at 8 p.m. (Saturday) at the Saranac Lake Civic Center,” Ellsworth said.
