ECAC West names weekly women’s hockey honors

CENTERVILLE, Mass. — Shannon Stewart and Katelyn Turk of the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team have been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Feb. 3.

Stewart figured in on five of Plattsburgh’s 10 goals in the Cardinals win over Potsdam Saturday. The Pickering, Ont., native tallied three assists in the first period before adding her fourth of the night in the second period on Plattsburgh’s ninth goal. Stewart capped off her night with her team-leading 14th goal of the season with 2:32 left in the second period. The Cardinals’ junior forward leads the offense with 25 points.

Turk contributed two goals and an assist in Plattsburgh’s 10-0 victory against Potsdam. Turk picked up the primary assist on the Cardinals’ first goal before netting her second goal of the season with 0.5 seconds left in the first period. The rookie forward out of Mississauga, Ont., scored her second of the night at the 3:35 mark of the second period to help Plattsburgh earn the win.

The top-ranked Cardinals travel to Elmira College this weekend for a pair of crucial ECAC West games. The two-game set opens Friday night at 7 p.m. before the series wraps up Saturday at 3 p.m.

Skaters compete in Watertown

WATERTOWN — Four local skaters competed at the Figure Skating Club of Watertown Snow Town Invitational Competition Jan. 25.

Lizzy Roberts of the Skating Club of the Adirondacks (SCA) took first place in the Pre-Juvenile Compulsory Jump Event and fourth place in the Juvenile Test Track Free Skate Event. Jack Crotty of the SCA took second in the No Test Compulsory Jump Event and fifth in the No Test Well Balanced Free Skate Event.
