Moriah outlasts Seton Catholic in girls' Northern Basketball League

PLATTSBURGH — Madison Stahl led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points as Moriah stayed perfect on the season with a 48-37 win over Seton Catholic in girls’ Northern Basketball League action Friday.

Sarah Slattery and Halie Snyder each chipped in with nine points for the Vikings.

Moriah outscored the Knights by 12 points combined in the second and fourth quarters.

“We had some trouble getting into our offense and Moriah took full advantage of that,” Seton Catholic coach Danielle Castine said. “They got a lot of defensive rebounds, which they were able to turn into fast-break possessions.

“They are a very quick team.”

Paige Spittler tallied 10 points to lead the way for the Knights. Samantha Bashaw added nine points, while Kelli Ryan finished with eight points.

Westport 60, Chazy 29

CHAZY — Ellie Schwoebel tallied a game-high 22 points as Westport defeated Chazy.

Chazy held a 15-14 lead after the first quarter, and trailed by just five at the end of the first half, but was only able muster five second-half points.

“(We) started off strong in the first half,” Chazy coach Liz Garrand said. “We were pleased with the way we were playing.

“We tried to make some adjustments to better suit Westport’s play and our fatigue, and it hurt us. Westport came back from the half ready to play harder and faster, and put it to us in the third.”

Brendee Russell added 13 points for Westport, while Hannah Schwoebel chipped in with eight.

Ashley Gimore and Rachel Pombrio each led the charge for Chazy with eight points.
