Northeastern Clinton strong in 2nd half, beats PHS

CHAMPLAIN — Managing a five-point halftime lead, Northeastern Clinton girls’ basketball coach Frank Dumas was searching for a better shooting performance in the second half.

The Cougars responded, accumulating 39 points in the final 16 minutes of play in a 62-42 defeat of Peru in Northern Basketball League play Thursday.

“After the break, we came out and played our best third quarter of the season,” Dumas said. “Our defense was solid, and we were knocking down shots.”

Kayla Carder had another good night for Northeastern Clinton, totaling 20 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. Shaylyn Rowe was also a significant contributor with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
