ALEXANDRIA BAY — The Plattsburgh High boys’ hockey team wasn’t fazed by early-game deficits at the Islanders Holiday Tournament Friday and Saturday.
Less than 24 hours removed from a comeback win over Ryetown/Harrison, the Hornets scored three times inside the final 3:24 of play to defeat St. Lawrence 6-5 for a championship victory Saturday.
Eric Bechard scored the game-winning goal with just 9.6 seconds showing on the clock.
“Pulling out the positives, we just kept working,” Plattsburgh High coach Jamie Reidy said. “We got pucks deep and kept going at them. We were happy with our shot production.
“We have to play a run-and-gun style right now and the kids know that. We were playing well around the net.”
Jack Tolosky was named the Islander Holiday Tournament’s Most Valuable Player, accumulating four goals and two assists on the weekend.
“Jack had a great weekend,” Reidy said. “He’s a fifth-year player in the league and what I get from him offensively is what I expect. He’s starting to become a more complete player. He did a solid job at both ends of the ice.”
Ryan Whalen and goaltender Dean Dashnaw were named to the All-Tournament Team.
“It was a great team effort for the entire weekend,” Reidy said. “It was a gut-check weekend for us being down in both games and staying the course. I’m happy with the effort, but we still have a lot of work to do.”
