Section VII takes VII/X Challenge

PLATTSBURGH — The Franklin Academy boys’ basketball team received a balanced scoring attack in a 57-43 victory over Saranac on Saturday in the Section VII/X Challenge at the Plattsburgh State Field House.

Cameron Gallagher led the Huskies with 12 points, while Austin Lamay, Chris Poupore and Jordan Yando added nine apiece.

John Maye and Caleb Keysor tallied 12 points each for the Chiefs, while Nate Stanton added 10. Dylan Christopherson hauled down 12 rebounds and Maye, 10.

Franklin Academy held a 24-19 halftime lead.

“It was closer than that in the first half,” Saranac coach Brent Denis said. “We were down by two when they hit a 45-50 footer at the buzzer.

“We weren’t able to recover from that in the second half and weren’t able to bounce back. They used a full-court press against us and we struggled.”

AUSABLE VALLEY 53, POTSDAM 42

John Goodnough, Shane Douglas and Zach Cosgrove combined for 47 points as the Patriots defeated the Sandstoners.

Goodnough finished with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Douglas added 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and eight assists, and Cosgrove 13 points and five steals.

Kobe Parrow chipped in with five rebounds for AuSable Valley, while Sultan Sikander, Austin Facteau and Nick McDonald played well defensively for the Patriots, who turned in a great team effort on defense.

AuSable Valley held a 20-16 halftime lead before opening up some breathing room in the second half.

Brian Cole connected on four 3-pointers and ended up scoring14 points to lead Potsdam. Dequan Pitts contributed 10 points.
