Guy leads Johnsburg past Wells

JOHNSBURG — There was no denying Johnsburg’s well-balanced attack Friday.

Paige Guy (16), Kora Millington (11) and Makayla Denno (10) each finished with double figures, helping the Jaguars (1-4) to a 49-31 defeat of Wells in girls’ Northern Basketball League play.

Suffocating the Indians (1-4) to just five points in the second quarter, Johnsburg was able to manage a 29-17 halftime lead.

The Jaguars continued their relentless attack, outscoring Wells by a 20-14 margin in the final 16 minutes of play.

Kadi Brenan, Chelsea Simons and Breanna Mayer each chipped in with six points for the Indians (1-4).

THURSDAYMORIAH 57, LAKE PLACID 23

LAKE PLACID — The Vikings jumped out to a 19-7 lead in the first quarter on the way to their win.

Lauren Cross and Madison Stahl paced Moriah with 10 points each, while Sarah Slattery and Taylor Sprague added eight apiece. Cross also dished out 10 assists.

Chloe Uebrick led the Blue Bombers with eight points and Hanna Potter added seven.

“Moriah is certainly the team to beat in Division II,” Lake Placid coach Jeff Potter said. “They are aggressive and distribute the ball well. Their year-round play is translating to great team play during the season.

“They used a combination of good outside shooting, crisp passing and low post play to win easily on the road.”
