Carder powers Cougars past Indians in girls' hoops

PERU — Kayla Carder poured in 23 points to lead Northeastern Clinton past Peru 56-40 in girls’ Northern Basketball League action Thursday.

Peyton Sample added 12 for the Cougars, and Taylor Rabideau had eight. Northeastern Clinton held a 31-19 lead at the half.

Maddison Flynn finished with a trio of 3-pointers and 16 points to lead the Indians. Sam Spear added eight points.

“Northeastern Clinton did an excellent job moving the ball on offense,” Peru coach Eric Dubay said. “They were very aggressive. Carder played well for them, and they did an excellent job doubling (Meghan) Mazzella,

“We did a much better job taking care of the basketball tonight and limiting our turnovers. We just have to start knocking down our open shots.”

SETON CATHOLIC 60, TICONDEROGA 25

PLATTSBURGH — Paige Spittler scored 15 points and Samantha Bashaw 12 to lead the Knights past the Sentinels.

Hailey Moore added nine points for Seton Catholic, which took early control of the game with a 19-6 lead in the first quarter. The Knights then put it away with a 22-7 run in the third stanza.

No Ticonderoga player hit in double figures.

WESTPORT — Hannah Schwoebel registered 10 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for the Eagles in a double-double performance.

Emily Rascoe was also a key contributor, picking up 10 points. Brendee Russell had nine points, seven assists and four steals.

Westport jumped out to a 32-10 advantage after three quarters and finished the ballgame on a 17-5 run.

Trina Bigalow and Payton Gough each chipped in with five points for the Warriors.
