Bombers, Eagles capture shutouts

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid girls’ hockey team returned to its winning ways Tuesday.

Samantha Barney and Kylie Kroes scored goals, while Jayde Dukette, Elizabeth Bimonte and Carissa Kennedy added assists, in the Blue Bombers’ 2-0 defeat of Salmon River in nonleague play.

“Sam, Jayde and Lizzie all worked hard for the first goal,” Lake Placid coach Sandy Huber said. “Jayde and Lizzie made great passes, and Sam has gotten really good at looking for corners when she shoots.”

Kroes extended the Blue Bombers’ lead to two goals at 5:52 of the third period on a shorthanded tally. The goal marked Kroes’ first at the varsity level.

Tanner Stanton recorded 11 saves for the shutout. Abby Grant stopped 17-of-19 shots faced for the Shamrocks.

Beekmantown 8, Saranac Lake 0

PLATTSBURGH — The Eagles received goal contributions from Lauren O’Connor, Brittany Miner, Brielle Carnright, Amy LoTemplio, Micalli Johnston, Connor LaPierre and Kiley Regan in their eight-goal rout.

Johnston recorded her first points on the varsity level, totaling one goal and one assist. LaPierre scored her first-career goal at 2:23 of the second period.

“It was nice to put some pucks in the net and get back on the winning track,” Beekmantown coach Ray Guay said.

After a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period, the Eagles’ offense exploded for three tallies in the second and third period.

Kayleigh Bell stopped all 12 shots faced to earn the shutout. Lindsey Reeve made 21 saves for the Red Storm.

“This was a good win for us heading into a big weekend in the Albany Tournament where we will see some good competition,” Guay said.

The four-team tournament includes Alexandria Bay, Skaneateles, Albany Academy and Beekmantown.
