Hamilton collects NSCAA, ECAC honors

PLATTSBURGH — Matt Hamilton of the Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team picked up a pair of honors to cap off an outstanding senior campaign for the Cardinals.

In addition to a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) men’s All-East Region First-Team, Hamilton was selected as an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate First-Team All-Star.

Hamilton, who served as the Plattsburgh’s captain for the last two seasons, appeared in all 22 games. A midfielder out of Keeseville, Hamilton finished second in team scoring with seven goals and four assists for 18 points.

He led the team with five game-winning goals, a category which he has led for the last two seasons. Hamilton finishes his career with 28 goals and eight assists for 64 career points, which includes 12 game-winning goals.

After missing the 2011 season to an injury, Hamilton returned in 2012 to enjoy two seasons as one of the top players in the conference. He is a two-time NSCAA All-Region and All-SUNYAC First-Team player and earned NSCAA/Continental Soccer All-American honors in 2012.

This season, Hamilton was honored with the SUNYAC Huntley Parker Award, recognizing the league’s player of the year and was named the most valuable player of the 2013 SUNYAC Tournament.

He has been part of two SUNYAC Championship squads (2010, 2013).
