Saranac wrestling goes 6-3 in Colonie

COLONIE — This past weekend, the Saranac wrestling team competed in the Linda Stuart Duels in Colonie.

The Chiefs compiled a 6-3 record in the two-day event, losing three close matches to the top-three teams in the tournament. Saranac lost to Minisink Valley 34-30, Burnt Hills 40-37 and Colonie 33-31.

The Chiefs, however, recorded victories over Ravena/Coeymans/Selkirk 51-27, Queensbury 42-30, Hudson Falls 54-26, Indian River 48-30, Division 39-34 and Schenectady 65-18.

“Despite losing three matches, we had some great individual performances,” Saranac coach Heath Smith said. “Cody Gillette and Will Marcil each went 9-0 on the weekend. Both wrestled extremely well. Jacob Nolan, Rafeal Rivera, James Black and Paul Herrea all went 8-1. John Devins and Brandon Yip were 6-3.”

The Chiefs will play host to Peru Thursday.
