Clinton, NCCC makes playoffs

DELHI — Clinton Community College and North Country Community College will be in the eight-team field for the NJCAA Division III, Region III men’s basketball tournament set for this weekend at SUNY Delhi.

Play will begin Friday with four quarterfinal contests leading up to Saturday’s semifinals and Sunday’s championship game. The winner will advance to the Div. III tournament later in March.

Clinton (22-7), coming off its most successful season ever, earned the No. 4 and will face No. 5 Tompkins-Cortland Community College (20-6) at 3 p.m. Friday.

North Country (16-14), qualifying for the eighth time in 11 years, is seeded seventh and will meet up with No. 2 Herkimer CC (22-7) at 8 p.m. Friday.

The other first-round games will send top-seed Delhi (25-5), ranked ninth in the country in Div. III, will face the winner of the Cayuga (10-17)-Onondaga (10-18) play-in game in Friday’s first game at 1 p.m. No. 3 Mohawk CC (22-5) and No. 6 Finger Lakes CC (18-11) will do battle at 6 p.m.

The semifinal games are set for 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday with the championship game at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Boyea on region team

North Country’s Michael Boyea, the former Chateaugay standout, was named to the Third Team All-Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference team on Sunday.
