Lake Placid, E'town-Lewis move on in Class D playoffs

LAKE PLACID — A 17-11 scoring edge in the fourth quarter was the margin of difference Wednesday night as Lake Placid defeated Chazy, 52-46, in the first round of the Section VII Class D boys’ basketball tournament.

“This was a back-and-forth game from the beginning,” Lake Placid coach Matt Walantuk said. “The biggest lead for anyone in the game was six points.”

The Blue Bombers received balanced scoring, with Tarik Cecunjanin leading the way with 13 points, to go along with seven rebounds.

Chris Kordziel added 11 points and Sam Rossi 10 for Lake Placid.

Alec Lapierre accounted for 21 of Chazy’s points, including 10 from the foul line. Zach Brothers followed with nine points.

“For us, Cecunjanin stepped up and made some key plays inside,” Walantuk said. “Rossi hit some key free throws down the stretch. Kordziel and (Davis) Moore did a great job handling pressure.

“Lapierre was dominant in the low post for them. A lot of credit goes to our kids for doing a great job handling Chazy’s pressure towards the end and closing the game out. Chazy played hard and tough for four quarters.”

Lake Placid will play at top-seeded Moriah at 6 p.m. on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
