PLATTSBURGH — The battle for Section VII championships in both boys’ and girls’ basketball begins this week, with the girls starting up on Tuesday and the boys on Wednesday.
Peru, as the lone Class A school in the section, receives an automatic berth into the state tournament for boys and girls.
For the boys, there will be two Class B quarterfinals on Wednesday night, featuring fifth-seeded Beekmantown at fourth-seeded Saranac and sixth-seeded Saranac Lake at third-seeded Northeastern Clinton, both at 6 p.m.
There will also be two Class D first-round contests Wednesday, including ninth-seeded Chazy at eighth-seeded Lake Placid and 10th-seeded Johnsburg at seventh-seeded Elizabethtown-Lewis, both at 6 p.m.
The top seeds in boys this season are Plattsburgh High in Class B, Seton Catholic in Class C and Moriah in Class D.
Competing for sectional championships this season are six teams in Class B, three in C and 10 in D.
The boys’ championships contests are set for Saturday, March 1 at the Plattsburgh State Field House.
Defending sectional champions for the boys include Beekmantown in Class B, AuSable Valley in C and Moriah in D. It should be noted the AuSable Valley will be in Class B this year as the second seed.
The girls’ playoffs, meanwhile, begin on Tuesday with two quarterfinals in Class B.
Fifth-seeded Plattsburgh High is at fourth-seeded Northeastern Clinton and sixth-seeded Saranac Lake at third-seeded AuSable Valley, both at 6 p.m.
The top seeds this year are Beekmantown in Class B, Northern Adirondack in Class C and Moriah in Class D. There are six teams competing in Class B, four in C and eight in D.
The championship games will be held on Friday, February 28 at the Plattsburgh State Field House.
