Beekmantown shuts out Plattsburgh in boys' hockey

PLATTSBURGH — Dustin Plumadore made 23 saves and Beekmantown played tight defense as it blanked Plattsburgh High 3-0 in a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys’ hockey game Tuesday at AmeriCan North Sports Center.

“I was really pleased with how our boys played defensively (Tuesday),” Beekmantown coach Justin Frechette said. “In the sport of hockey, goals against is a team statistic, and we did a nice job from the goal on out of keeping shots to the outside.

“Dustin made a few really nice saves when called upon. And we were able to capitalize on a few of our chances, and that was the difference in the game.”

Nate Foster scored two goals, and Josh Barriere added a goal and an assist. Matt LaClair earned two assists.

“Anytime you can get two league points against a quality opponent at this point in the season you have to be pleased,” Frechette said. “We now need to refocus and get ready for an important game on Thursday night at home against Lake Placid with first place in the CVAC on the line.”

Dean Dashnaw had 23 saves for Plattsburgh.

Saranac Lake 4, Saranac 1

SARANAC LAKE — The Red Storm tallied three goals in the third period to pull away from the Chiefs.

Bradley Shumway scored the go-ahead goal less than a minute into the third and then assisted on Chris Spicer’s power-play marker . Blake Battistoni make it 4-1 with 21 seconds left.

Blake Darrah stopped 22 shots for Saranac Lake.

“We had some real nice chemistry in some newly formed lines as we played three complete periods of hockey,” Saranac Lake coach Will Ellsworth said. “The fact we didn’t panic after a 1-0 Saranac lead is a testament to our seniors, who played composed hockey.”
