Peru hands Plattsburgh big loss; AuSable Valley defeats B'town

PERU — John Clemons challenged the Peru boys’ basketball team to limit its turnovers and match Plattsburgh High’s defensive intensity.

Rivelino Hendricks blocked five shots, while Ian Spear and Jordan Guay held standout Garrett Frady scoreless, as the Indians rolled in a 54-31 defeat of the Hornets in Northern Basketball League play Monday.

“I’m very proud of the intensity our team brought to the game,” Clemons said. “Tyler Lemza demanded the ball early on and attacked the basket extremely well. He scored 13 of his 14 points in the first half. We jumped on them early and converted a few baskets inside. I was very proud of the defensive effort of Ian Spear and Jordan Guay on Frady. Frady is such a tough player.”

Guay and Hendricks each reached double-digit scoring, totaling 12 and 10 points, respectively. Spear also added five assists.

Taoufik Maknani paced Plattsburgh High with 11 points in the loss. Alex Follmer scored seven points.

“Nick McDonald had five rebounds and should be credited with keeping possessions alive on several occasions. It was a great team victory. The eight kids on the team continue to play hard, practice hard and strive to improve for sectionals.”
