Fletcher’s seventh inning, walk-off home run helped the Indians to a 5-4 defeat of Northeastern Clinton on Senior Day in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference softball Friday.
“She crushed the second pitch she saw over the left fielder’s head,” Peru coach Jason Brown said. “It was a deep shot.”
The Indians, though, down 3-1 after the top of the fifth inning, were forced to rally.
“We finally got girls on base,” Brown said. “We had some timely hits, and we were able to move runners around.”
Fletcher registered two hits and two RBI, while Peru seniors Brianna Padron and Shannon Bombard each accounted for two hits.
Emily Boyer led the Cougars with four hits. Stephanie LaValley and Katie Matott added three and two hits, respectively.
Kelly Neenan was credited with the win on the mound, striking out seven batters in a complete-game performance. LaValley was tagged with the loss.
