Split decision in tennis

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh and Northeastern Clinton had three-of-five matches go three sets, with the Cougars capturing two of them to grab a 3-2 win in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys’ tennis Monday.

Brendan Boutin defeated Chris Gray, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 2 singles for Northeastern Clinton. Austin Tetreault and Devan McManus were 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 winners at No. 2 doubles over Matt Bracy and Guillermo Saguar.

Adam Khater and McKenna Hunter captured a win for the Cougars at No. 1 doubles.

Alex Racine and Brendan Whalen were winners for the Hornets.

Plattsburgh captured all three singles matches in its 3-2 win over Northeastern Clinton.

Marle Curle, Kelsey Senecal and Olivia Carlsson were each two-set winners for the Hornets.

The Cougars captured both doubles matches, but needed three sets to do so.

Andrea Mossey and Aryana Kellison, and Morgan Rabideau and Sarah Babbie each picked up wins for Northeastern Clinton.

LAKE PLACID — Keegan Barney didn’t drop a game in his two-set victory at No. 2 singles to lead the Blue Bombers over the Patriots.

Steven Jelinek and Justin Stosiek picked up wins for Lake Placid in singles. The Blue Bombers won both doubles matches by forfeit.

Georgia O’Leary, Victoria O’Leary and Joan O’Leary won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 for Lake Placid.

The best match of the day was in No. 2 doubles where Sophie Morrelli and Kayla Hudson needed three sets to defeat AuSable Valley’s Hannah Lawrence and Emily McDonald.

Brenna Garret and Liza Marinis won at No. 1 doubles for the Blue Bombers.

ELLENBURG — Margaret Mitchell and Kari Kusalonis battled for three-set victories to help the Indians past the Bobcats.

Mitchell defeated Hannah Charland, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Kusalonis knocked off Maegan Brunelle, 7-6(7-4), 2-5, 6-0.

Taylor Higgins and Anna Mitchell won at No. 1 doubles for Peru.

Katie Lamb and Taylor Pitts were winners at No. 2 doubles for Northern Adirondack, with Shonni Velasquez grabbing a singles victory.

Peter Daly, Johnny McAuliffe and Connor Bond each won their singles matches to lead Peru over the Bobcats.

Camden Brockbank and Mathew Rine were No. 2 doubles winners.

The best match of the day was at No. 1 doubles, with Patrick Demarais and Kyle Kemp outlasting Jared Brunelle and Steven Warick, 7-6(7-4), 2-6, 6-0.

BEEKMANTOWN — The Eagles held on against the Chiefs for a 3-2 victory.

Beekmantown needed three sets in all three of their wins to capture the overall victory.

Olivia Wyand was a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 winner over Anna Dorrance at No. 1 singles. Anna Stitt defeated Kayla Napper, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Lydia Gricoski and Teresa Minardi dropped the first set 1-6 before rallying for a 6-2, 6-2 finish against Brooke Layhee and Olivia Klooster.

The Chiefs took wins from Emma Newell in singles and Kristen Napper and Amie Eggleston in doubles.
