Cougars drop two to Herkimer

HERKIMER — The Clinton Community College baseball team hurt itself with walks and errors as it lost 16-2 and 10-0 in a doubleheader against Herkimer County Community College on Saturday.

Clinton coach Tom Neale said the Generals took advantage of numerous walks in the first game. They scored three in the second inning for a 4-1 lead and then put the game away with seven runs in the third.

Joey Larson earned the win, and Jason Favaro took the loss. Clinton’s Eric Rock had a double in the game.

Herkimer plated two in the first inning of the second game and added four runs in each of the next two innings.

“In the first inning we lost a ball in the sun. And in the third we misplayed a couple balls, and that cost us a few runs,” Neale said.

Rob Hardy was the winning pitcher.

Russ Merrill started for Clinton and was relieved in the third by Kristian Sherman. Merrill, Joe Tolosky and Josh Rabideau accounted for the Cougars’ three hits.

Clinton (3-11) hosts Hudson Valley today.
