Soccer standout Gena Rosenbaum and hockey All-American Peter Ollari are named Plattsburgh State’s Athletes of the Year.

Baseball star Tim Barcomb of Morrisonville is chosen as Clarkson University’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Plattsburgh State’s Kris Doorey is named SUNYAC Coach of the Year in baseball while the Cardinals’ David Waldron is picked for the All-SUNYAC team.

Jacki Hutchins of Elizabethtown-Lewis and Malone’s Erica Golden pitch no-hitters in girls’ softball.

Jason Dessureault and Mike Castine set school records in Northeastern Clinton’s track victory over Ticonderoga.

Elliott Luscombe breaks Brian Leonard’s meet record for the 200 meters while Heather Bessette and Jen Dufore lead the Malone girls to victory in the SLU/Section X track & field invitational.

Beekmantown’s Suzanne Frenyea is named to the Third Team, Class B All-State team in basketball.

Mike and Traci Esposito win the Mother’s Day Mile.

Crown Point’s Jesse Harrington hurls a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts while teammates Randy Pertak and Dan Dushane rap out three hits each in a victory over Schroon Lake.

Ticonderoga’s Jeremy Hall breaks his Section VII record for the discus with a throw of 169 feet, 1.5 inches.

Malone’s Missy West and Paulette Poirier of Brushton-Moira pitch no-hitters on the same day in NAC softball.

25 YEARS AGO (1988)

Sam Crowningshield of Elizabethtown-Lewis pitches a 2-hit shutout and fans 17 Schroon Lake batters in a 2-0 victory.

Ticonderoga’s Kellie Grinnell wins the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 1:08.2 and Jenny Giambruno of St. John’s captures the 800 meters in 2:23.8 in the Queensbury Invitational.

Malone’s Melanie Andrews, with three one-hitters already on the season, no-hits Gouverneur in NAC softball.

Stan Loya and Rick Young fire no-hitters in the opening week of the AuSable Forks Fast-Pitch Softball League season.

Saranac Lake’s Tim Pratt (baseball) and Lake Placid’s Shelly Strack (softball) of Cortland are named to the First Team All-SUNYAC.

30 YEARS AGO (1983)

Moriah’s Derrick DeSimone pitches a no-hitter, but ends up losing to Northern Adirondack 2-0 on two unearned runs. Bob Gravel tosses a 3-hitter for NAC.

Karen Gruendling hurls a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts as unbeaten Peru defeats PHS 13-2 in softball.

Ann Gibbs, Kelly Tabor and Karen Ingleston combine on a 2-hitter in Crown Point’s 11-7 upset of Elizabethtown-Lewis.

Joe Cieri shoots a 38 and John Bissell, a 39, to lead the unbeaten PHS golfers to a 5-2 victory over Peru.

Bryan Higgenbotham pitches a 2-hitter and helps his cause with 3 doubles and 5 RBI in Saranac Lake’s 6-2 triumph over Tupper Lake.

40 YEARS AGO (1973)

Ralph Thomas, a truck driver from Gardiner, Me., wins the Champlain Valley Marathon for the second straight year in 2:27:40 while Susan Brown of Braintree, Vt. becomes the first female to finish in the 3-year history of the race, coming in 67th, overall, in 3:05:04.

Brian Bouyea strikes out 16 in MAI’s 10-2 victory over Northeastern Clinton. Greg Sackett collects 4 hits and Chris Van Nortwick and Tim Howley two each for the Mounties.

Dave Terry belts a 2-run homer in the seventh and adds the game-winning single in the ninth as St. John’s nips NCCS 5-4.

Rocky Drollette, Marty Chauvin and Rick Sollner set school records while leading MAI to victory in the Saranac Invitational track meet.

50 YEARS AGO (1963)

OLVA freshman Billy McNeil throws a no-hitter at St. Mary’s of Champlain.

Elizabethtown’s Billy Gough, who has allowed just four hits in four games, pitches a no-hitter against Schroon Lake. Bob Hanley has 2 hits, including a home run, and Mick Duntley, a three-run double.

Gary Molleur raps out 4 hits and Jim Chenevert, 3, in Champlain’s 14-1 victory over Ellenburg.

Cliff Buckley and Don Bouyea combine for a 1,293 score to win the doubles at the 14th New York State American Legion bowling tournament.

Bob Mangine tosses a 3-hitter as Mooers beats Dannemora 5-3, despite Tom King’s 4-hit, 13-strikeout performance.

60 YEARS AGO (1953)

Leroy Tyndall, making his first start of the season, pitches a 5-hitter as Plattsburgh High takes over the Northern Tier lead with a 5-1 victory over AuSable Forks. Paul Savage’s home run spoils the shutout bid.

Art Bourdeau pitches a one-hitter for OLVA in a 7-0 victory over Lyon Mountain in Fran-Clin baseball play. Dick Islas has the lone hit for the Miners.

Sophomore Basil Curry pitches a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts for Ellenburg against St. Mary’s of Champlain.

Terry Burnell tosses a 5-hitter with 18 strikeouts but is hurt by 6 errors as Morrisonville edges Altona 6-5. Ros Sorrell has 2 hits for Morrisonville.

Tom Sorrell, an 18-year-old freshman from AuSable Forks, pitches a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts for the St. Michael’s College junior varsity.
