Campbell leads Chiefs to shutout of Hornets

SARANAC — Kourtnie Campbell had a big day Thursday for the Saranac softball team.

Campbell struck out 10 and walked three in going the first six innings for the pitching victory. At the plate, Campbell accounted for three hits, including a triple, as the Chiefs improved to 8-1 in league play and 9-2 overall.

Tori Trim, who pitched a scoreless seventh, added two singles and a double, while Summer Gillespie and Ashley Terry finished with two hits each, with Gillespie getting a double.

Saranac held a 5-0 lead until breaking loose for six runs in the sixth inning.

“We hit the ball well, and they made some timely mistakes that helped us,” Saranac coach Sam Campbell said.

Madison Trombley and Karlie Neale led the Hornets with two hits apiece. Jamie Bedard was the losing pitcher.

LAKE PLACID 20, BEEKMANTOWN 4

LAKE PLACID — Winning pitcher Serina Hayes, who struck out eight and did not walk anyone, helped her cause with a home run, double and single.

Taylor Maiorca added four singles and Liz Bimonte a home run for Lake Placid, which held an 11-4 lead when it scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Kelsey Taylor, Haley Brandes and Alexis Megliore chipped in with two hits apiece for the Blue Bombers, who had 17 hits in all.
