Chazy begins pursuit of Class D title repeat with win

Northern Adirondack upsets Lake Placid in girls' 'C' semis


CHAZY — Chazy began its pursuit of another Section VII Class D in style Friday with a 5-0 victory over Keene.

Josh Barriere and Brandon Laurin each scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead the way for the Eagles.

David Poitras added a goal for Chazy, while Brett Giroux, Nathan Reynolds and Cole Chaskey each finished with an assist.

Kyle Bisonette (0) and Trent Blais (3) combined for the shutout victory. Colton Venner turned away 16 shots for the Beavers.

The Eagles move into Tuesday’s semifinals against Schroon Lake, a 4-2 winner over Crown Point.

Elizabethtown-Lewis 1, Willsboro 0, OT

WESTPORT — Eighth grader Joel Morris has been on the varsity all season long, but never tallied a goal for the Lions.

He picked an excellent time to score his first.

Morris connected with 30 seconds remaining in the first overtime to lift No. 3 Elizabethtown-Lewis over the Warriors.

The Lions outshot Willsboro 23-7 throughout the game, but the Warriors were up to the task in holding Elizabethtown-Lewis out of the net.

Goalkeeper Dakoda Latford turned away 14 shots for Willsboro in a losing cause. Seth Swires and Nick Arnold each were credited as standouts in the game.

Charlie Huttig, Joel Morris and Austin Morris each had strong games for the Lions. Justin Lapier had six saves in the shutout victory.

Elizabethtown-Lewis will travel to No. 2 Minerva/Newcomb, a 6-0 winner over Westport, Tuesday in the semifinals.

SCHROON LAKE — Jeff Armstrong tallied 11:19 into the second half to propel the Wildcats over the Panthers.

No. 4 Schroon Lake took a 2-1 lead after the first half on goals from Robert Rose and Justin Lough. Tanner Stone assisted on both goals.

Mike Enman scored the loan first-half goal for No. 5 Crown Point.

Joe Foote scored at 4:40 of the second half to tie the game at two for the Panthers with Enman collecting the assist.

Armstrong then scored the game-winner. He also added an insurance goal with 10 minutes left in regulation.

Caleb Maisonville made six saves to pickup the victory for the Wildcats in net. Brandon Crowningshield turned away four shots in the loss.

Schroon Lake will travel to Chazy, a 5-0 winner over Keene, on Tuesday in the semifinals.

OLMSTEDVILLE — Wesley LaBar scored two goals and assisted on two others as the Mountaineers rolled past the Eagles.

Adam McCall got the ball rolling with a goal five minutes into the game with LaBar gathering the assists.

Joao Silva, LaBar and Borja Martinez all tallied first-half goals as No. 2 Minerva/Newcomb took a 4-0 lead at the half. Bryton Chikukwa and Silva each had an assist in the half.

LaBar and Martinez each added their second goals in the second half for the Mountaineers. LaBar and Austin Williams each had an assist.

Alex Ruzbacki turned away five shots to capture the shutout victory. Sam Napper had seven saves for Westport in the loss.

The Mountaineers will host Elizabethtown-Lewis, a 1-0 winner over Willsboro, in Tuesday’s semifinals.

Northern Adirondack 1, Lake Placid 0

PLATTSBURGH — The Bobcats had a rollercoaster couple of days leading up to the Section VII Class C semifinals.

The ride, however, was worth it as Northern Adirondack knocked off state-ranked, and No. 1 seed, Lake Placid 1-0.

After a scoreless first half, Kourtnee Smith took a drop-back feed from Elle Warick and drilled the ball into the net for what proved to be the game-winning goal with 32:49 remaining in the second half.

“This was an excellent team effort,” Bobcats coach Sharon Relation said. “It was an evenly played game and it could have gone either way. (Friday) the ball just went in our favor.”

Stephanie Snide turned away eight shots to capture the shutout victory for Northern Adirondack. Liz Leff made six saves in a losing cause for the Blue Bombers.

The Bobcats move into Thursday’s championship against today’s AuSable Valley/Ticonderoga winner.
