Run/walk at the Crete to benefit Family Promise
PLATTSBURGH — The Great Pumpkin Prediction Race, a run/walk to benefit Family Promise, will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Crete Civic Center. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The event begins at noon and participants can choose one of two races — the short course, between three and 3.25 miles; and the long course, between 6.25 and 6.5 miles.
The entry fee is $20 for adults and $15 for ages 16 and under if pre-registered (postmarked by October 15) and $30 for all on race day. Race-day registrants will not be eligible to win prizes for the prediction race times portion. Costumes are encouraged and prizes will be awarded for costume categories. Race-day registrants will be participant shirts while supplies last.

Hoy rolls 300 game in City Mixed League
PLATTSBURGH — Ryan Hoy, bowling for Ron Hoy Construction in the City Mixed League on October 14 at North Bowl Lanes, tossed a 300 game. Hoy, who carries a 197 average, finished the evening with a 647 series.

SARANAC — Saranac Central School’s chapter of the National Honor Society is hosting the second-annual Chiefs Run Fun Run on Saturday at the Cadyville Recreational Park. The event is a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project. Races include a children’s 800 meters, 1 mile and 5k. Registration fees are $10 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 8. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with races beginning at 10 a.m.
Local MMA fighters record wins
RUTLAND, Vt. — Three area athletes competed in the Rumble in Rutland on Saturday with all three recording a win. Dakota Giguere, of Plattsburgh, defeated Bruce Richards, of Montpelier, in the 155 lb. weight class with a rear naked choke in the second round to improve his record to 3-0. In the 170 lb. weight class, Nicholas Prenoveau, of Plattsburg, defeated Luke Bergeron, of Vt., by split decision to improve his record to 2-0. Josh Ryan, from Saranac, defeated Robert Cameron, of Bangor, Maine, by unanimous decision in his debut fight to put his record at 1-0. All three fighters train with Plattsburgh Combat Sports.

CHAMPLAIN —The Beekmantown boys defeated Seton Catholic 27-31 in a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference meet Tuesday. The score was incorrectly reported to the Press-Republican.
Mooers K of C Soccer Challenge results
MOOERS — The following are the results from the Mooers Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge held Oct. 14. Ethan Dumas, Thomas Kimbler and Alex Houghton all took first place for the boys in their respective age divisions while Caitlin Houghton and Jessica Cartier finished first for the girls. Each champion is eligible to compete in the Northern Conference level which includes the Watertown to Plattsburgh regions.
