Peru edges Beekmantown in CVAC gymnastics

BEEKMANTOWN — Peru overcame Alyssa Leonard’s performance Saturday to record a close 148.50-146.80 victory over Beekmantown in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference gymnastics.

Leonard won every

event, including the vault (8.0), uneven parallel bars (8.6), balance beam (9.0), floor exercise (9.0) and

all-around (34.6).

But performances by Molly Lawliss and Alexandra Brown helped push the Indians over the top.

Lawliss was second in the all-around with a 30.9 and Brown third with a 30.8.

Lawliss placed second on the bars (7.8) and floor exercise (8.3), while Brown was second in the vault (7.7), tied for second on the beam (8.0), and tied for third on the floor (8.0).

Other finishes for the Indians included Lexi Trombley with a third in the vault (7.5), Mason Fortin third on the beam (7.9) and Alan Rivers tied for third in the floor (8.0).

The Eagles, who are without the injured Lydia Gricoski this season, had Brielle Cerne third on the bars (7.3) and Erica Leonard tied for second on the beam (8.0).
