PLATTSBURGH — The Fourth Ward Cardinals are all what stands between another Champlain Valley Baseball League playoff title for the defending champion Lyon Mountain Miners.
The title could be decided today in the best-of-three series when the top-seeded Miners host the third-seeded Cardinals in a doubleheader at the Big Ball Diamond.
If a third game is needed, it will be played the following Sunday in Plattsburgh.
Both the Miners, who also won the CVBL regular season championship, and Cardinals won their best-of-three semifinal series, 2-1, with victories last Sunday at Lefty Wilson Field.
David Waldron pitched a complete-game victory in the Miners’ 7-1 decision over the fourth-seeded Fourth Ward A’s. Waldron also helped his cause at the plate with two hits, including a home run.
Also swinging big bats for Lyon Mountain was Tory Bouyea with two double and three RBI, and Reilly Lawless, who went 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals showed they’re a force to be reckoned with when they rolled to a 14-3 victory over the second-seeded Meron’s Expos in the second game of the day.
Joe Tolosky, Frank Buksa, C.J. Worley and Brian Latulipe all had multiple-hit games for the Fourth Ward, with Tolosky driving in four runs and Buksa two in support of winning pitcher Steve Burris.
