Franks 11th in Placid Triathlon

LAKE PLACID — Logan Franks, a 22-year-old graduate of AuSable Valley, was the top local finisher in the 2010 Ford Iron Man Lake Placid Sunday.

Franks finished 11th, overall, and first in the men's 18-24 age group with a time of 9:20:27. More than 3,000 athletes participated in the event with 50 men competing in the 18-24 group.

His performance in the Iron Man was a strong follow-up to a seventh-place finish in the Tupper Lake Tinman (June 21), a victory in the Half Marathon in Plattsburgh (April 19) and a third-place finish in the Turkey Trot last November.

Plattsburgh's Jeff Dodge also had an impressive outing in Sunday's race, placing 228th overall and 11th of 27 participants in the men's 45-49 age group with a time of 9:28:58.

Michael Parker of Lake Placid was the third local finisher, taking 333nd overall with a time of 11:03:34 in the men's 50-54 group. Parker placed 32nd of 370 in his age group.

The top area female was Lake Placid's Karen Lieb, who placed 880th with a time of 12:09:39. She was sixth in the Women's 50-54 age group.

Caitlin Skufca of Wilmington came in third in her age group (18-24) while Plattsburgh's Bob Heins was fourth in the Men's 70-74 bracket.
