Cards to host hockey exhibition Sunday
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team will play the Nepean Junior Wildcats at 1:15 p.m. Sunday at the Stafford Ice Arena, and there's no admission charge. This replaces the contest against the Ontario Hockey Academy that had been scheduled for Saturday. The Cardinals officially begin the season Nov. 14-15 at Chatham in Pittsburgh, Pa., and then opens the home schedule against defending conference champion Elmira Nov. 21-22.

Skate America returns to Lake Placid
LAKE PLACID — Skate America returns to Lake Placid Nov. 12-15, celebrating its 30th anniversary.

The initial Skate America in 1979, which was then called Norton Skate/Flaming Leaves Festival, marked the first time that an American company had undertaken exclusive sponsorship of a U.S. figure skating competition. This first-of-its-kind competition was held in Lake Placid as a test event for the 1980 Olympic Games and was the first international use of the new 1980 arena.

Skate America is back in Lake Placid for the first time since 1982, and U.S. Figure Skating and NBC have announced a deal to broadcast Skate America and the ISU Gran Prix series for first time in six years.

This year's competitors include:

Sasha Cohen — After 3 ½ years away from competition, the 2006 Olympic Silver Medalist returns to the ice in Lake Placid in her quest for Vancouver Gold.

Rachel Flatt — The Colorado High School Senior and two-time reigning U.S. Silver medalist is being mentored by America's Sweetheart and former Gold Medalist Dorothy Hamill. Rachel is considered to be a medal contender.

Evan Lysacek — Evan capped last season by winning the 2009 World Title in Los Angeles. He has finished 2nd or 3rd in each of the last four Skate America events.

Tanith Belbin & Ben Agosto — World Ice Dancing silver medalists and 2009 Cup of China gold medalists, this pair has won five gold medals and four bronze — the most in the event's history.

Purchase tickets for Skate America at www.tickets.com, by phone at 523-3330 or at the Olympic Center Box Office at 2634 Main Street in Lake Placid.
