PLATTSBURGH — Recent history gave fans an idea that the Section VII/X Class B championship game would be another close thriller.

Instead, it turned out to be eerily similar to Beekmantown's regular-season victory over Peru.

The Eagles, led by Patrick Manor's three rushing touchdowns and two interceptions, defeated Peru, 41-15, Monday night at Plattsburgh High School to repeat as Section VII/X Class B champions.

Manor finished with 134 rushing yards and backfield mate Matt Durocher added 118 and a score on just nine touches. The Eagles' ground game churned out 315 yards and five scores.

"I'm so proud of our football team," Beekmantown coach Mark Haley said. "A lot of them started the journey last November in going to the weight room. Our group of seniors held everything together."

Beekmantown will host a Class B regional game Nov. 13 at Plattsburgh High School against the winner of Section II's Lansinburgh and Schalmont. Those two teams play in the Section II Class B championship game next weekend.

Last year's Section VII/X Class B championship game came down to the final 10 seconds, and the a season prior took overtime to decide. This time, however, Beekmantown set the tempo from the first play and made it more like the 40-13 victory over Peru in the regular season.

Manor intercepted an intended screen pass on the game's first play from scrimmage and then scored from 34 yards out two plays later. The two-way senior standout scored twice more to give the Eagles a 20-0 cushion in the second quarter.

Peru quarterback Rob Duquette put the Indians on the board with a 1-yard plunge with 45 seconds left in the half.

The Eagles didn't waste that precious little time. Carter Frechette connected with Luke Weaver for 30 yards on a laser-strike and then lofted a 25-yard pass to Jonathan Manor, who fumbled at the 1-yard line but recovered the ball in the end zone to send the Eagles into the half up 28-7.

The drive took just 20 seconds.

"That's the character of a champion," Peru coach Larry Ewald said. "They did everything they had to do to win the football game."

The Eagles defense held the Indians offense to just 35 yards in the first half, picking off two passes and recovering a botched punt at the Indians' 14-yard line, scoring two plays later on a 2-yard run by Patrick Manor.

When the Eagles' suffered one of their two turnovers of the game on a fumble in the second quarter, Patrick Manor notched his second interception on Peru's very next play.

"He can play any place and sometimes he tries to overdo things, but when he just lets himself play he's just a phenomenal football player on both sides of the ball," Haley said.

Beekmantown switched up looks on Peru first downs throughout the game, often resulting in no gains or tackles in the backfield.

Peru finished with just 46 yards rushing.

Duquette, who dealt with constant pressure from the Eagles' front, shook off a tough first half and in the second half completed 8-of-12 passes for 118 yards with a touchdown and one interception that first glanced off a receiver's hands. But by the time the Indians' offense found any semblance of rhythm, it was already too late.

"Their skill kids are outstanding, but they did a real good job up front defensively of mixing things up and confusing us," Ewald said. "My hats off to the way they prepared, and my hats off for the fact that they're just a good, solid football team right down the line."

The Indians lost senior captain and two-way starter Connor Keleher when he was injured on a punt return in the second quarter. Keleher, a wide receiver and cornerback, was the Northern Football Conference's leader in receiving yards.

The Indians cut the deficit to 34-15 on an 11-yard screen pass from Duquette to Dave Ragone in the fourth quarter, but Taylor O'Bar found paydirt for Beekmantown on a 10-yard run on the Eagles' next possession.

"Beekmantown's a heck of a football team," Ewald said. "They're extremely well-prepared and on top of that they've got some very good football players. We wish them the best of luck down the road."
