B'town girls pull out win

BEEKMANTOWN -- The Saranac girls' soccer team was 1:27 away from a win Thursday.

Beekmantown, however, spoiled the Chiefs' victory hopes when it scored late in regulation and then in the first overtime for a 2-1 victory in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference play Thursday.

Lauren Gonyea's goal pulled the Eagles into a 1-all tie at the 38:33 mark of the second half. Then, with 5:46 remaining in the first overtime, Megan Rivers' goal gave Beekmantown the win.

Saranac had taken a 1-0 lead at 18:24 of the second half on a Megan Bowman goal.

"It was a well-fought game -- it went back-and-forth," said Beekmantown coach Gayle Roy-Collin. "Gonyea was all over the field today for us."

Kelley Lucia made 14 saves in the Eagles' nets and Liz Tedford 13 stops for the Chiefs.
