GLENS FALLS — What started out as a good week for the Clinton County Mariners in the Coopers Cave Tournament turned into not so good.

The Mariners, after recording two one-run victories to open the event, dropped their final three contests, including a 15-7 setback to Pittsfield, Mass. on Friday.

And, Mariners head coach John Flynn took his share of the blame for the latest loss.

"It was 1-all after three innings and they scored five runs in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. Then, we fought back with six runs in the bottom of the fourth to grab the lead.

"But, I didn't manage well after that, especially with our pitching. I didn't handle our pitching the way I should have. It's my team and I have to take my share of the blame today. I'm tough on our players at times, but today I'm being tough on myself because I deserve it.

"We shouldn't lose fact that we were hot and had won five games in a row, including the Granville Tournament this past weekend and two good games in this tournament. We had a couple hiccups the last two days, but we'll regroup."

Clinton County (15-10), after falling behind by five runs in the top of the fourth, rallied in the home half of the inning when Pat Shaughnessy, Jordan Keysor and Frank Buksa rapped RBI singles, Brett Bosley a RBI double and Kyle Rascoe, a two-run double. But, Pittsfield came back with five in the top of the fifth and added four more in the sixth.

"We had three walks to start the fifth and then an error," Flynn said. "Absolutely, we wanted to put up a zero after we scored six runs and we didn't do so."

Bosley, the second of four Mariners pitchers, took the loss in relief of Will Flynn.Keysor had a single and double, Matt Leta a home run and Buksa two singles for the Mariners.

"We're not handling adversity very well," Flynn said. "We have to get ready now for the Districts. Our first game is 11 a.m. next Friday against South Glens Falls."

The Mariners will play the Champlain Valley Baseball League All-Stars on Wednesday night.

In Thursday's game against the Colchester Cannons, Kyle Rascoe had a triple and single.
