Mayor's Cup Regatta still open to entries
PLATTSBURGH — The Sunrise Rotary Club of Plattsburgh is still accepting registrations for the 32nd-Annual Mayor's Cup Regatta, the largest sailing regatta on Lake Champlain, to be held Saturday.

Pre-registrations will be accepted until 5:00pm on Friday, July 10th. You may only register on race day if you have a Lake Champlain PHRF rating.

The regatta starts at 10 a.m. from the Plattsburgh Boat Basin, Plattsburgh, NY.

Race registration forms are available at www.MayorsCup.com. Inquiries may be directed to Kjell Dahlen at 566-2020 or regatta@mayorscup.com.

O'Connor 3-on-3 tourney set for today
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau will use the rain date of July 10 to host its Ninth-Annual Thomas J. O'Connor Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. The tournament will run from 10 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m. at the City Gym parking lot on the U.S. Oval located on the former Air Force Base in Plattsburgh. Check-in for pre-registered teams is from 9-9:45 a.m.

Lake Placid skating series continues
LAKE PLACID — The Citizens Bank Summer Skating Series continues with Freaky Friday and the Saturday Night Ice Show, presented by Mirror Lake Inn, today and Saturday at the Olympic Center.

The U.S. figure skating pairs team of Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig star in this week's Saturday Night Ice Show. The duo placed fourth, winning the pewter medal, at this year's U.S. Figure Skating National Championships, tying their previous highest placing of fourth in 2007.

Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the show is $9 for adults, $7 for juniors and seniors. Children six and under may enter for free.

The Freaky Friday show is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in the 1932 Rink Jack Shea Arena. Students in the Miracle of Gold summer skating program create their own unique routines for this event.

Sprite Soaring Saturday at Olympic Jump
LAKE PLACID — Tara Geraghty-Moats will be looking to retain the top spot at the Sprite Soaring Saturday nordic-ski jumping competition at the Olympic Jumping Complex. The event starts at 1 p.m.

Soaring Saturdays are weekly King-of-the Hill events that combine the distance of the jumps as well as the style the jumpers display on the landing. The athletes take the best score from their first two jumps and add it to the mandatory third jump to get a final score.

Admission to the venue is $14 for adults and $8 for juniors and seniors. The price includes entry to the competition as well as the chairlift and elevator ride to the Sky Deck.

AuSable boosters to meet Monday
CLINTONVILLE — The AuSable Valley Booster Club will hold its monthly meeting Monday, at 6 p.m., in the high school cafeteria. The meeting is open to anyone interested in helping with the booster club.

Peabody's/Chateaugay wins in hoops
PLATTSBURGH — Jerrod Dumont scored 14 points, Drew Boyea 12 and Jason LaPlante 11 as Peabody's/Chateaugay edged out a 68-67 victory over Thomson Orthodontics in the City of Plattsburgh Summer Open Men's Basketball League.

Chris Castine tallied 20 points, Dave LaBarre 19, Mike Medberry 18 and Mike Castine 15 in T. Maliniak Masonry's 85-38 win over Lashway's Meat Market/Heald Funeral Home. Ricky McCann scored 13 points and Dustin Blockson 11 in the loss.

Shawn Gutzman tossed in 21 points and Jason McCleod 12 in the Mean Green's 81-70 decision over Read or Waive Transcripton Services. Nick O'Meara scored 28, Steve Thomas 20 and Corey Lewis 12 in the setback.

ATV club to meet Monday
PLATTSBURGH — The Outback Riders ATV Club will have its' July monthly meeting on Monday, July 13 at 7 p.m. in the Gander Mountain Lodge meeting room at Champlain Centre Shopping Mall. The Lodge is located in the back of the store. Please call 492-7790 if you have any questions. New members are welcome to attend.

Pine Ridge 3D animal round Saturday
PLATTSBURGH — The Pine Ridge Bowman will be holding a 40-target 3D animal round Saturday at the Champlain Valley Outdoor Club. Shooting begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. There will be classes for beginners and experts. Refreshments will be available. For more information, call John Brean at 578-1022.



Whiteface disc golf course to open today
WILMINGTON — The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) will open its new Whiteface Disc Golf Course at 11 a.m. today The new course features nine distinct "holes" around the lower part of Whiteface. The course incorporates Mixing Bowl, Wolf, Boreen, Round About, Lower Valley and other trails into the layout, with the start and finish area located at the Facelift.

Disc golf consists of players using flying discs instead of clubs and balls to go from the tee box to the hole, usually a metal chain basket of some sort. Players normally have three discs — a driver for teeing off, a mid-range one, and the putter for using around the hole. The object of the game is to complete each hole with the fewest number of throws.

The public may golf for free, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

PSU track team named all-academic

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team has been named a 2009 NCAA Division III All-Academic Track and Field Team by the United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Cardinals placed 65th out of 100 teams on the list, having carried a 3.290 grade point average during the 2008-09 school year.

According to the USTFCCA guidelines, the selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year award is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements, with the top honor going to the team that had the combination of best overall finish at the respective Division III Indoor or Outdoor National Championships and cumulative GPA.

To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.100 cumulative grade-point average.

Jenny Schaffhouser led the Cardinals by provisionally qualifying for and competing at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the 10,000-meter run. The women also qualified for and competed in an impressive 13 events at the State University of New York Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, 15 at the Outdoor SUNYACs, and 10 events at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, six at its outdoor equivalent.

The Cardinals finished behind SUNYAC opponent Brockport (42nd) on the list, but ahead of Geneseo (tied for 75th), Oneonta (tied for 84th), and Oswego (96th).

Upcoming Neil J. Carey Youth Fishing Derby



The Clinton County Youth Bureau will host a Youth Fishing Derby in Memory of Neil J. Carey on Saturday, August 1st from 10:00am until 12:00pm at the American Legion Post 1619 located in West Plattsburgh. Youth must pre-register by July 30th at 5pm. No day-of registration will be allowed. Youth will be able to check in at 9:30am until 10:00am, boys and girls 5 to 15 years of age will be able to register for this derby at no charge! The field is limited to the first 50 who register. Pre-registration is required as we do expect to fill the 50 slots early! Each participant will receive a free event t-shirt. Awards will be presented to the top 3 sized fish in each age division as follows: Pee Wee 5-7, Junior 8-10, and Senior 11-15. Registrations will be accepted on a "first come, first served" basis. To pre-register, submit an entry form with parental Signatures to the Youth Bureau. Or go to www.clintoncountygov.com and click on Youth Bureau to print off a Registration Form. Complete it and return it to the Youth Bureau with all supporting documentation so we have it by 5pm on Thursday, July 30th. We do expect to fill this 50 participant field prior to this date.

This event is in honor of Neil J. Carey. Mr. Carey was an active supporter of the outdoor recreation who had a lifelong passion for fishing. Please contact the Clinton County Youth Bureau with questions by calling 565-4750 between the hours of 8am and 5pm daily.

Youth track meet scheduled for July 18
PLATTSBURGH — A Fast Feet Youth Track Meet will be held July 18 at 10 a..m. at the Plattsburgh High School Track. The event is open to all area youth.

Entry fee is $5 and the meet is free for Fast Feet Track campers. The age group divisions are 4-6 and 7-12. Events include running, long jump and softball throw. The meet is sponsored by the Plattsburgh City Recreation Department.

Seton Catholic has coaching openings

NCCS girls' basketball to hold open gym
CHAMPLAIN — Northeastern Clinton Central School will hold girls' basketball open gym from 3:30-5:30 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, July 15 at St. Mary's Academy. Open gym is for girls in seventh grade and up. For more information, call 298-3561.



The Malone Mustangs Youth Football Program will be holding sign ups for their 8th Annual Football Camp Thursday, July 9 from 5:00 pm — 7:00 pm at the Owls Nest Pizza Express the cost is only $40.00 for Girls & Boys ages 5-16. The camp will run from July 20th -23rd from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm, each camper will receive a camp t-shirt, camp picture, cook —out (last day) and instruction on fundamentals, sportsmanship & most important having fun!

Also the 11th Malone Mustang Youth Football season for grades 1st -6th entering the fall school year are eligible to play with practices starting August 17th. The fee is only $75.00 and that includes equipment, insurance, banquet, tournament participation and many extras. Two books are required for each course: "Successful Coaching" by Rainer Martens (3rd edition) and the NYSPHSAA Handbook. These books can be purchased at the first class for a price of $30.00.

PLATTSBURGH — The Beekmantown Youth Commission is offering a gymnastics camp at Trudeau's Gymnastics Center July 13-17 from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. The Center is located at 1080 Military Turnpike Ext. Plattsburgh Fun Camps continue with archery
PLATTSBURGH — The Town of Plattsburgh's Sport Fun Camps continue this week The second week, Monday, July 6-Friday, July 10 will feature Archery. Each session will be two hours and filled with learning the basics of the activity and then practicing with some friendly competition. The Camps will be held at the following two Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Parks each week for six weeks: Everest Rabideau Park in Cumberland Head from 9:00-11:00 a.m., and at East Morrisonville Recreation Park from 12-2:00 p.m. Each week will feature a different activity. Next week the camp will feature Golf. This is a drop-in program so pre-registration is not necessary. All equipment will be provided and there is no charge for any of these camps. Round the Islands Canoe Race Aug. 1
COLTON — The Higley Association will sponsor its annual four mile 'Round the Islands Canoe Race on Saturday, Aug. 1. The race will begin and end at the Brookfield Big Rockboat launch and picnic area located off Pine Rd. in the Town of Colton.

The race will take canoeists on a 4-mile loop around a portion of Higley Flow. It is described as a recreational canoe race geared toward families, with the emphasis on fun.

There are seven classes to accommodate all recreational craft including a Rub-a-dub-dub anything human powered goes class for pedal kayaks, guideboats, rowboats, etc. and an Unlimited class for high performance boats. There is also a one mile race for fledgling paddlers 14 years and under.

Following the distance events there is a pedal boat slalom race for all interested racers.

A picnic lunch follows the event with awards and door prizes being presented at that time.

Registration for the race will be from 9-10 a.m. The race will begin at 10 to take advantage of cooler temperatures and calmer water. The event wraps up around 12:30 p.m.

Cameron hockey camp changes announced
PLATTSBURGH — The Cameron Hockey School will be the week of Aug. 3-7, Monday-Friday, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at Lake City Stars Arena. All boys and girls in grades 6-12 may sign up.

The new cost for the camp is $150 per player and $125 for goalies. There will be a maximum of four goalies. All other details of the original application will apply.

Applications are available in Chazy, Lake Placid, Plattsburgh, Rouses Point and Saranac Lake youth hockey programs and at Lake City Arena and Hockey Plus in Lake Placid.

Brushton co-ed softball tourney July 25
BRUSHTON — An eight-team One Pitch Co-Ed Softball Tournament to benifit the Brushton-Moira Booster Club will be held July 25 at the American Legion in Brushton. Entry fee is $150 per team. There must be at least five men and five women on each team. Call Roy Richards at 483-3754 to sign up.
