CVAC recognizes softball stars
Arielle Vilardo and Kayleigh McGovern headline the list of 2008 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Softball All-Stars.
Vilardo, a Ticonderoga senior, was named the conference's Most Outstanding Player. The catcher was a four-year starter for the Sentinels, and she finished this season with 30 hits and a .390 batting average. Vilardo drove in 26 runs and scored 40, including the lone run in a win over St. Lawrence in the NYSPHSAA regionals. She was also excellent defensively behind the plate.
Beekmantown's McGovern was selected as Most Outstanding Pitcher. A four-time CVAC All-Star, McGovern earned 16 wins with a 0.99 ERA this season while pitching all but four innings for the Eagles. She struck out 150, walked 33 and held opponents to a .171 batting average. McGovern has 48 career wins.
Shannon Huntington and Shelley Young, who guided Ticonderoga to a 20-3 record, received Coach of the Year honors. AuSable Valley picked up the Ray Holmes Team Award.
