Published July 06, 2009 12:33 am - The Lyon Mountain Miners and the Meron's/Renzi's Expos split a doubleheader Sunday in CVBL action. The 4th Ward Cardinals swept the Fourth Ward Timberjaxx and the Hockey Plus/Loreman Padres did the same to the Fourth Ward A's.

LYON MOUNTAIN — David Waldron went four-for-four, including a home run, triple and two RBI, in the second game Sunday as the Lyon Mountain Miners recorded an 8-6 win over the Meron's/Renzi's Expos for a split of their doubleheader in Champlain Valley Baseball League play.

In the opener, Mike Bergman outdueled Waldron and Zeke Perras' RBI single in the top of the eighth gave the Expos a 4-3 win.

In Game 1, Bergman struck out seven and Waldron fanned three as the two went the distance.

Nick Lamica, Cliff Conners and Perras led the Expos with two hits each, with Lamica getting a triple and a RBI. Casey Brighton doubled in the top of the eighth and scored on Perras' hit.

Jerry Kowalowski and Kris Chase paced the Miners with two hits each. Nick Chase rapped a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to bring the Miners to within 3-2 and Tom Kowalowski's one-out RBI single scored Kris Chase with the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

In Game 2, in addition to Waldron's four hits, Jerry Kowalowski and Nick Chase added two apiece for Lyon Mountain. Justin Besaw's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a 5-all tie and put the Miners (8-7) ahead to stay.

Chris VanHouten pitched five innings for the victory and Cody Weaver the final two for the save.

Mark Passino led the Expos (10-6) with three hits and two RBI, while Steve Criss, Brighton and Bergman all added two hits apiece, with Criss hitting a home run and driving in two.

PLATTSBURGH — Tom Neale struck out nine and walked one in pitching a five-inning no-hitter in the first game. Neale walked the leadoff batter and retired everyone after that.

Adam Porter rapped a home run and drove in four runs for the first-place Fourth Ward Cardinals, while Nate Durkee also homered and singled. Tom Jebb and Neale each added three singles and Tory Bouyea had two.

The Cardinals scored 10 runs in the first inning.

In Game 2, Durkee clubbed a grand slam and also singled, while Bouyea and Jebb chipped in with two hits each for the Cardinals (12-3).

Craig Bujold went the five innings for the victory as he struck out nine, walked three and allowed four hits.

Joel Siskavich had two of the four hits for the Fourth Ward Timberjaxx (4-12).

PLATTSBURGH — The breeze was blowing out at South Acres Field as the Hockey Plus/Loreman Padres (11-5) and Fourth Ward A's combined for 10 home runs and 53 hits.

Joey Painter rapped four hits, including two home runs and six RBI, on the day for the Padres, while Eric Bell added three hits, including two home runs and six RBI.

Painter and Bell socked three-run homers in a nine-run fifth inning in the first game that erased a 3-1 deficit and gave the Padres a 10-3 lead at the time.

Andrew Bombard added a home run and double for Hockey Plus/Loreman's, while Jeff Norton and Donny Coolidge each added a double and single and Pat Hoey, two singles. Frank Brogna struck out seven in going the first four innings for the win.

Steve Livsey led the A's with two singles and a home run, while Wayne Wilkins went three-for-three. Kevin Jessey and Reilly Lawless hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the first and Jessey finished with two hits. Michael Howard added a double and single, and Randy Brown, two hits.

In Game 2, Chris Markwica paced the Padres with three singles and a double. Shane Perrotte and Painter each added a home run and double, and Bell, a home run and single. Norton chipped in with two hits in support of winning pitcher Matt Rivers, who went the first six innings.

Jake Tolosky and Brown accounted for two hits each for the A's and Lawless put the Fourth Ward on the board with a grand slam in the fifth inning.

The Padres still have road doubleheaders at the Fourth Ward Cardinals and Lyon Mountain Miners still on the schedule.
