OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Peru's Arik Robinson, wrestling at 105 pounds, compiled a 5-2 record in the Greco-Roman division this week as part of the New York State team in the Junior National Freestyle/Greco-Roman Dual Meet Wrestling Championships.
The 14-year-old Robinson, who won a state championship this past season at Peru Central School at 96 pounds, is also taking part in the Freestyle competition which is being held at the present time.
The Junior Nationals are for wrestlers ages 14-18.
Robinson opened the dual meet tournament with a 7-0 loss to Illinois' Max Nowry and then lost by fall in 39 seconds to Brandon Nelson of Indiana.
Robinson then recorded five victories in a row -- a 23-second pin over Wisconsin's Tim Bartchenfeld; a 2-1, 5-0 win over California's Gabe Brown; a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Washington's Brad Watson, a 6-5, 2-1 decision over Minnesota's Mike Fueriffinger; and an 0-6, 4-2, 2-1 win over Texas' Joe Andrews.
Robinson's New York State team ended up finishing ninth overall.
New York State lost matches to Illinois (43-21), which took first place in the nation, and Wisconsin (36-30).
New York State recorded victories over Indiana (55-14), California (48-17), Washington (53-12) and Minnesota (45-25) before defeating Texas, 33-30, for ninth place.
