LAKE PLACID — Marilyn Little-Mered of Frederick, MD rode Uppsala to victory in the $7,500 Champlain Valley Equipment 1.45m Power & Speed Stake Friday at the 32nd Annual I Love New York Horse Show.
Little-Mered was one of only 2 entries to qualify for the seven-jump speed section of the course by riding without penalty over the 10-jump power portion of the course at the North Elba Showgrounds. Both she and the other entry to reach the speed section, Sarah Segal on Ramses, scored four faults for one knockdown in the speed section with Little-Mered claiming the win based on the faster time of 36.739 seconds. Segal took second place with a time of 41.864 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Madeline Cox rode Kix to victory in the Weeks Family Amateur-Owner Jumper Class; Laura Chapot rode Capri to victory in the Eastern Hay 1.35m Jumper Class; and Jonathan McCrea rode Primo to the win in the Lake Placid/Essex County Visitors Bureau 1.40m Speed Challenge.
The I Love New York Horse Show continues through Sunday. Saturday's Fourth of July schedule features the week's main event, the $75,000 Hermes Grandprix scheduled for 2:00 pm.
Prior to the Grandprix at 12:00 noon is the horse show's 17th Annual Doggie Costume Contest. All people with leashed dogs in costume are admitted to the horse show free of charge.
