PLATTSBURGH — Airborne promoter Mike Perrotte vows that the fireworks display planned for tonight's High Peaks Dental Mayor's Cup event will outdo anything seen at the speedway in years.

"Joseph Clauss & Sons of Plattsburgh are putting on the display," Perrotte said. "We've requested more shells, bigger shells and a more spectacular grand finale than we've ever had."

"We're going to light up the sky for a long time," Clauss said.

All five divisions — the Ernie's Tools Modifieds, J&S Steel Sportsmen, Versatile Trailer Sales Renegades, Keeseville NAPA Auto Parts Mini-Modifieds and the Monster Energy Bombers will be in action. More than 130 race cars are expected.

Modified point leader Martin Roy of Napierville, Quebec will try to earn the Mayor's Cup by winning for the third time this season. Feature winners Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake, Mike Bruno of Castleton, VT, George Foley and Jason Durgan as well as Aaron Bartemy of Sheldon, VT, Leon Gonyo, Richard Tisseur and Andy Heywood, will test Roy in the 30-lap main event.

Robin Wood goes for an unprecedented fifth straight Sportsman win. Randy Ladue of Saranac will try for his second Renegade win in a row.

Gates open at 4 p.m. Qualifying heats begin at 6 p.m. Admission is $12/adults, $5/kids 6-12, children five and under free and $25/family (2 adults, 2 kids). Airborne Speedway is located on Broderick Rd, just off Rte 22 one mile south of I-87 exit 36.
