Cougars gain ground in CVAC
SARANAC -- Monday was a bad day for Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Division I softball leader Saranac.
But, it was a good one for Northeastern Clinton.
Mara Faiviae rapped out three hits, including a double, to help lead Northeastern Clinton (7-3) to an 11-1 victory over the Chiefs, enabling the Cougars to close within one game of first place.
Ayisha Loya and Ashley Lamberton added two hits apiece for the Cougars.
NCCS scored four runs in the third to take a 4-1 lead and added five more in the sixth.
Chelsea Barcomb pitched well in the victory as she struck out six, walked two and allowed four hits.
Kelli Jock was the losing pitcher for the Chiefs (8-2). Jessica Myers, Kayleigh Rasco and Carissa Fournia each had a double for Saranac, with Myers driving in the Chiefs' lone run of the game.
