Long-distance Cougars sweep
PHS, Saranac Lake, Saranac, Peru also come away with 2 victories in dual meets
TICONDEROGA -- There is nothing like a victory -- excuse us, two victories -- to make the longest trip of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference track & field season a lot more enjoyable.
Northeastern Clinton trekked to Ticonderoga Thursday and came away with a 64-53 win for the girls and a 73-59 triumph for the boys.
The NCCS girls had to overcome a splendid performance by Ticonderoga's Elsie Phillips, who was a four-time winner, and Emily Palmer, who claimed three firsts. Ainsley MacAlpine also doubled for the Sentinels.
First-year athletes Molly Roush and Mallory Honan joined veteran Alyssa Hicks as double winners for the Cougars while Jackie Fales, Carleigh Roush, Kirsten Boumil and Kali Blankenship all added big firsts.
Gerald Marks swept the hurdles and picked up a first in the relays to spur the NCCS boys on to victory. Tyler Sample won the 400 and long jump for the Cougars while Nick Barcomb, Jacob Ballard, Connor Herdic, Caleb Hampton and Cody Hampton all figured for a first.
Jonathan Granger took the 100 and 200 dashes and a first in the sprint relay to lead Ticonderoga. Lee Berube, Michael Lonergan and Dustin Scott all were double winners for the Sentinels. Ticonderoga won the sprint relay with an all freshman lineup, together for the first time in a meet.
