Cardinal women drop to No. 2

PLATTSBURGH -- The Plattsburgh State women slipped from first to second in the latest UCHO.com rankings after a tough weekend split with Elmira College.

The Cardinals (8-2-1) received 128 points and five first-place votes while Gustavus Adolphus moved up to No. 1 with 140 points and nine votes.

The Cardinal men (12-0-2) remain at the top of the NCAA Division III poll compiled by USCHO.com, collecting 295 points and 15 first-place votes. Plattsburgh has been No. 1 in the national rankings for six straight weeks, tying a school record set during the 1999-2000 season from Nov. 29 to Jan. 17.

Hince honored again

In other hockey news, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Monday named Bryan Hince of Plattsburgh State as the league's goalie of the week, for the period ending Sunday. The sophomore from Tillsonburg, Ont., has earned the weekly award for three consecutive weeks and six times overall this season.

In its only game of last week, Hince backstopped top-ranked Plattsburgh State to a 3-1 victory against then No. 12 Norwich, extending the Cardinals' season-opening unbeaten streak to 14 games (12-0-2). He had 20 saves on 21 shots, including turning aside all 11 shots in the third period to keep the Cadets off the scoreboard when they applied most of the offensive pressure.
