Speakout: Jan. 2, 2014


Another winter when many homeowners refuse to shovel or de-ice sidewalks in front of their houses. Pedestrians have to share the streets with drivers, which becomes cumbersome and dangerous. The City of Plattsburgh would benefit from revenues reaped from fining homeowners who don’t remove ice and snow on sidewalks.


With the latest minimum-wage increase and how the restaurant workers such as waiters/waitresses and hospitality workers are NOT included in the pay increase, I don’t understand why we haven’t set a gratuity tax as an automatic charge to customers so they are at least guaranteed something. Not everyone leaves tips.


If you tie your dog up outside overnight and all day, do me a favor, put on a collar and tell me how cold and depressed you get out there. Treat all forms of life just as you would like to be treated, have a heart.


Marijuana would put billions back into states’ pockets. But, unfortunately, pot kills people and ruins lives, according to TV. You have a better, healthier chance smoking cigarettes and destroying your liver.


People are not clearing a pathway so that the paper carriers can deliver their paper. If it’s not safe for the carriers to deliver the Press, then the recipients shouldn’t get their paper. People have to clear their mailboxes, same should be done for the paper.
