Speakout: Dec. 30, 2013

Snowmobiles

I am very happy we have snow for you to ride, but please stay off my lawn. Several went through Mooers Forks, and it was good to hear that rumble again, but when you drove right through my yard, that upset me. Use your trails please!

Problems

Amazing that this newspaper allows people print space to whine about their personal problems that only they can resolve. Humorous at times, scary at other times — are these posts for real?

Lights

The recent tragic fatal accident in Amsterdam involving a NYS trooper compels me to speak out regarding lights on police cars. The blue and red rapidly flashing lights are way too brilliant — even blinding — to motorists, and I consider them a hazard in themselves.

Quaintness

Congratulations to Saranac Lake on your recent grant award. Your uniqueness and quaintness are your treasure. I hope you realize this as you plan improvements. Remember Big Yellow Taxi: “You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone.” In all sincerity, best of luck.

Consolidation

Perhaps since the Crown Point School Board and superintendent have prevented the taxpayers who contribute 17 per cent of the cost per student to vote on school consolidation, Gov. Cuomo will allow the New York state residents who pay 83 per cent of the cost to reduce their contribution.

Bust

Local drug bust in Plattsburgh was great. Next time, do not do it while kids are waiting for the bus. They do not need to see this type of action.

Apology

Route 3 apology Dec. 18. Thank you. You are an honorable man. Merry Christmas.
