Speakout: Feb. 28, 2014

Debt

Your nation’s debt in 2008: $9.5 billion. Your nation’s debt in 2014: over $17 billion. Is this the “change” you were referring to, Obama?

Behavior

Shocked and disgusted at coach’s conduct toward a wrestler’s disabled father.

Banquet

Since when is it OK for a school to host a sporting banquet at a bar where the parents and coaches are drinking. It is still a school function; so why is drinking allowed?

College

College solution finally. I could not afford college until now. I’m not an illegal citizen, so I don’t get free college. But thanks to the New York government, if I commit a crime and do a two- to four-year sentence, I get free college, with no loans, thank you.

Snowmobiles

A big thank you to Cody’s Store in West Chazy. They were gracious in turning their gas pumps back on after the store closed in order for snowmobilers to get back on the trails to get home. Your kindness is appreciated; let’s support our own locals.

Distraction

Oh, yay, it’s getting to be tax time. You know what that means, completely legal distraction of drivers by dressing up in costumes and frantically trying to take their attention off the busiest intersections in town.

Exemption

Kudo to AuSable Valley School Board for honoring veterans with the allowed tax exemption. Other school boards should follow their example. If not for these veterans, we would not have our freedom of choice. This exemption is just a small token of appreciation.

Driver

To the gentleman who flipped me off one morning on 374. Sorry I didn’t see you in my blind spot, but your display of your IQ was priceless. I can only hope it doesn’t happen to you.

Prohibition

I would love for the Press-Republican to dig into the archives to around the end of alcohol prohibition. The same arguments for anti-marijuana legislation were alive and well in the public square. Causes insanity! Devil’s drink! And the more sane realized that wasn’t very accurate.
