Speakout: Aug. 18, 2012


I am all for sharing the road with cyclists as long as they follow the rules of the road.  I think training should be required in order to bike on the road, like drivers are required to do.  Cyclists should also be ticketed for failure to follow traffic signs/signals.


Here are some things all workers can thank unions for: a minimum wage, a 40-hour work week, child-labor laws, the weekend, the middle class, workplace safety, pensions. Strong unions equal a strong middle class, and thus, a strong America.


All summer, I read reviews for wonderful new movies, but Plattsburgh theaters show the same old fare (superheroes, cartoons) playing in 2D and 3D versions for weeks at a time. I understand that money drives this decision, but it’s unfortunate that our 22 local screens exhibit essentially the same thing.


It’s time to get rid of Doonesbury. Gary Trudeau is a left-wing liberal hack who is no longer entertaining or significant for political commentary.
