Speakout: Nov. 28, 2009

SPEAKOUT RULES

Speakout entries that are more than 100 words long will be rejected. Also, don't type all in capital letters and don't insult a specific person or use hateful language because those will be rejected also.

Please take a minute to proofread and spellcheck your entry before you send it. Look for spelling errors, grammar mistakes and words that should be capitalized but aren't.

It takes time to correct the many errors that arrive in Speakout entries, so it's a big help if you check them over first.

Carrots
Regarding the person concerned about the local gas station selling carrots to "bait deer." Did you ever think that maybe people, like myself, just like to eat a lot of carrots?

Plates
I'll pay for the new plates on my vehicles. Maybe if they were not so ugly and $10 that would go over much better. How about a design contest? Why so much for vanity plates? Anything but having to go to the DMV. We go there once every few years and people expect you to know exactly what forms or line to go in. The people giving instructions need to slow down and speak like they care a little more. I know some people have been quite rude to you, but not all of the customers are that person.

Fields
Rugby field? I remember years ago when the new track went into NCCS. They build a football field in the middle. Pure genius. A soccer power with a football field. Sometimes you get what you pay for — other times you get someone else's idea of money well spent.

Rights
I am outraged at how people are reacting to Janet Dubrey's support for Dede Scozzafava. You have got to be kidding me with the crank calls and personal threats on the woman's life. What has happened to freedom of speech? Not just Ms. Dubrey's opinion, but everybody's. The issues of gay rights and a mother's choice have obviously hit a nerve with you. I find your hatred toward anyone with an opinion childish, vile and cowardly. If I were Ms. Duprey, I would plow ahead with my head held high, ignoring those lame, uneducated voices in the community.

Growth
As everyone awaits their layoff notice from Pfizer, we must ensure that our politicians move for economic growth in the area. Let's go for economic growth and independence in our region. Helping all for the greater good is much better than extending unemployment payouts for the recently unemployed. We need to offer up greater incentives for long-lasting well-paying jobs.

Stage
I would like to comment on the new stage being built in Rouses Point. I think it looks very nice and cannot wait for the first performance to be held there. In response to the person who wrote the complaints in Speakout: stick around, as winter is coming and we need all the hot air we can get.

Sexist
Newsweek just ran a cover pic and story of Sarah Palin in shorts. The photo was taken illegally from Runners World. They were trying to depict her in a sexist way (this is a man's world).

To be fair and balanced, Newsweek should place Joe Biden on the cover in tight shorts (no less).

Complaints
To all those who have nothing better to do than complain about the people at DMV who enforce the rules that Albany dictates: either run for office and you can make new rules or move!
