Published October 26, 2009 10:05 pm - Pounding, Season, Prices, Lobby, Moon, NACS and more.
Speakout: Oct. 27, 2009
Pounding I know the bridge in Plattsburgh needs to be completed, but do you have to start the annoying pounding that makes your entire house shake at 7 a.m.?
Season RE: "Hunting" on 10/8. You are almost as creative as you are ignorant. Did you witness any of the actions you wrote of. Did you call the police? The claims you made were outrageous and a cheap shot toward hunters in general. Hunters use target ranges to practice. A true hunter is always safe and has the utmost respect for firearms. "Big-game season" has nothing to do with what you claim is happening. Maybe you should move south, it would save you two months of the dreaded "big-game season."
Prices Why is it that two gas stations can sell gas for $2.42 while others sell it for $2.70? So just how much profit are some of these gas stations making? How much are the customers getting ripped off? This is a 28-cent difference. Please don't tell the readers that you are taking a 28-cent loss.
Lobby To the NACS School Board: Who came up with the stupid, immature idea to cram hundreds of high school kids in a lobby every morning for 10 to 15 minutes? Was it to prevent drug exchange, fighting? You just made it easier now to pass drugs being together like that. And let's not mention the serious fire hazard. As a school taxpayer, I want my child released now from this ridiculous idea to put control in the school; it's not a jail. They have the right to walk around in the school.
Moon Spending millions of dollars to crash two spacecraft into the moon while children in our own country still go to bed hungry at night ... God Bless America!
NACS I couldn't believe what I was told today by my child; how NACS is cattling their high-school kids in the lobby every morning. What is wrong with you people? I suggest you stop this before a lot or all of the School Board is replaced. We don't like our kids placed in a situation where they can't defend themselves if something should happen. Let my child go now!
Recess Obesity is an epidemic in America, but our public schools are not doing their part. My two children go to Cumberland Head Elementary School. New York state mandates that children in grades K-6 receive 150 minutes of gym per week. My children receive 60 minutes of gym, and Beekmantown substitutes recess for the remaining 90 minutes. In the winter, the kids have recess in their classroom. Some kids lose recess for discipline reasons. Beekmantown is using some type of loophole to meet the state mandate.
Park To the Champlain Park resident who said he/she has a failing septic system: You don't even have a septic system; you're already on public sewer and have been since CP was built in the '50s! You won't have to pay for the Cumberland Head sewer because you aren't in the district. It's unfortunate that you are so ill-informed and so easily manipulated by the likes of Obama, Paterson and Bassett.
Stimulus You're saying what you got you worked for, and ours was a handout. I also work. This money wasn't asked for. We actually didn't even know we were getting it. It helped, but regardless of whether or not I received this money for my child, we still had to buy the same clothes. I began shopping for school when last school year ended to make sure my child would have what they needed and prayed clothes would fit right. I go without so my child doesn't have to. You don't know anyone's situation. Don't be quick to judge.
Gas For those people who think they are saving by going to Dannemora for gas, consider this: You can buy 10 gallons at Bucks for $2.56, 10 gallons in Dannemora for $2.42, a 'savings' of $1.40. However, it takes a gallon of gas to go to Dannemora, a 30-mile round trip, not to mention time wasted. So you've used $2.42 worth of gas to save $1.40; essentially you lost $1 and an hour.
Hunting I wanted to let everyone in the area know that duck hunting will soon be open on the lake. Duck hunters can hunt closer then 500 feet to roads, houses and even in the city on the shoreline of the lake as long as they are shooting over the lake. Also, the public is given access to all shorelines on the lake, public or private. The lake has a high- and a low-water mark; the public gets to use from the median toward the lake as long as it is accessed from the lake.
Flu shots Regarding flu shots, you get what you pay for. It's a crap shoot that the CDC tries to figure out from season to season (the strain of virus that will be prevalent). There is no way I would be willing let the government generate a vaccine, let alone put it in me. I'll take my chances with the flu.
