Speakout: June 23, 2009
DELAYS Haven't seen your Speakout? There are a few possible reasons.
We won't publish Speakouts that are longer than 100 words or that we consider libelous or inappropriate, including personal attacks, merchant complaints that we can't verify and court matters.
Also, once a topic seems to have run its course, we will cut those for a time. The point has been made, and writers are always welcome to send a signed Letter to the Editor of no more than 300 words for publication on the Editorial page.
Lastly, if you haven't seen your Speakout yet, you might just need a little patience. It has proven hugely popular, and most days, we have hundreds of column inches waiting to get in. News articles have priority, but we try to get in a little Speakout each day.
If you have any questions, call News Editor Lois Clermont at 565-4131.
Bands Once again the Cadyville firemen have put together a fine field day. Good food, drink and entertainment. I think the idea of the battle of the bands was a great one. But the type of music the bands play must be a very important part of the booking. The idea was great, but it would have been better if the bands played classic rock or country; that is the type crowd you have there. I would love to see it again next year with music adjustment. And again thank you for a nice day.
Editorial I'm glad to see such a quick revision of your erroneous editorial concerning Verdantique Park. Decades of work have gone into this riverside plan, and lots of people deserve credit. The connective tissue between the generations, though, has been Jack Stewart. As both councilor and mayor, he talked up this plan. It likely would be sitting on a dusty shelf if he had not been here to keep getting people interested in it. Thanks, Jack.
Leaving lights up I now leave my Christmas lights up all year as it is increasingly difficult the older we get to put them up. It is one string under the eaves — no icicles or snowflakes. When lit, they are clear colored bulbs. The cord is dark green — nothing garish. I see no reason not to light them on Easter, the 4th or Halloween.
I hope they don't offend anyone. I see far worse things in the neighbor's yard.
