Shoe box effort

TO THE EDITOR: Essex Community United Methodist Church dedicated 186 shoe boxes on Sunday, Nov. 24, for Operation Christmas Child.

A ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, shoe boxes are packed with hygiene items, school supplies, small toys and hard candy. These are sent to needy children in the USA and countries all over the world. Since 2001, more than 100 million boxes have been sent.

The Essex Community Church children and young people had a shoe-box packing and pizza party and packed more than 96 boxes at that time.

Both those who packed and those who receive are blessed beyond measure.

Essex Benefit for Brodi

TO THE EDITOR: Brodi is 4 years old.

On Christmas Day 2011, he had his first seizure. Since then, he has been diagnosed with epilepsy.

Before his parents, Angie and Eddie Sussdorff, got his epilepsy under control, Brodi was suffering sometimes from 20 seizures a day.

Controlling the seizures comes with lots of medical expense, including several different medications, a special diet, supplements and countless trips to Albany Medical and Boston Medical.

At 1 p.m. Jan. 11, 2014, we will be holding a benefit for Brodi at Murphy’s Bar in Peru to help the family with the medical expenses.

Angie and Eddie have to make the trip to Boston every three months and could use a hand with hotel costs, care for their younger children, medication and, of course, the medical bills themselves.

We are looking for donations for our Chinese auction. We will be selling michigans and chips, doing a 50/50 raffle and bake sale. There will be live entertainment also. Any donations would be helpful and greatly appreciated.
