TO THE EDITOR: I am writing this letter about my husband, Bob Cronin, a retired New York State Police trooper.
Bob is doing a fundraising bicycle ride called Tourdeforce. This will be his sixth year.
The 2014 Tourdeforce starts on Sept. 11 from the finish line of the Boston Marathon and ends on Sept. 14 at the Freedom Tower in New York City.
The first day of the ride is called Sean’s Ride, in honor of slain MIT police officer Sean Collier, who was killed in the line of duty during the Boston Marathon bombing search.
The mission of the Tourdeforce is to honor the victims of 9/11 and to raises funds for families of police officers killed in the line of duty.
Bob was given the honor last year to present three $5,000 presentations to officers’ families who gave the ultimate sacrifice. This year, Bob will be making two more presentations to families of the NYSP who died in the line of duty.
During the 2013 Tourdeforce, Bob raised over $15,000 for this cause.
Donations can be made on the secure website www.grouprev.com/robertcronin, or checks can be made out to Tourdeforce and mailed to Bob at 19 Haynes Terrace, Peru, NY 12972.
We are also collecting bottles & cans for the deposits as donations and can be reached at email@example.com or 643-2629.
On Aug. 15, starting a 5 p.m., a benefit to assist in raising funds for this cause will be held at Bobby’s Lounge in Plattsburgh. All are welcome.
Thank you for the past assistance in support of this cause and hope that you will remain committed to be part of this year’s fundraising.
TO THE EDITOR: Attempting to stop murder sprees by passing gun bans on everyone is like banning flush toilets to prevent flooding or banning backyard barbecues to stop “global warming.”
