Unnerving decision

TO THE EDITOR: Members of the Bishop’s Apostles for Life were disappointed and perplexed when our City Council voted, at a recent meeting, to veto our request to use our regular three parking spaces in front of Planned Parenthood for one hour on Good Friday to pray the Stations of the Cross.

Our prayer service was held there for 14 years with no problems, except for those who rudely harassed us — the escorts and the people across the street.

Its purpose was to save babies and their mothers from abortion, which has been the “choice” (of death) embraced by so many mothers.

We are not aware of any serious reason for the vote change. Parking spaces are always available on both sides of Brinkerhoff Street, and Planned Parenthood has additional parking in the rear of its building. I would think that residents and clients could use them for one hour once a year.

It was unnerving at the meeting to see the council immediately turn around and give a number of the valuable parking places on busy downtown streets to a few of the restaurants for the entire summer.

What will this do to the other businesses on City Hall Place? I have heard a few complaints that it is difficult to find parking there now. Where will people park for the new city center?

Could all of this be just discrimination or could some religious bias be part of the menu?

Postscript: According to Webster’s Dictionary, the so-called compromise the city issued us was missing half of the definition of “compromise:” our mutual acceptance.
